Fashion should be an investment. In my personal fashion opinion, if you are going to spend money on clothes, shoes, and accessories…you might as well make it worth your while. Who makes money to waste it??
I didn’t always feel this way. I used to be queen of fast fashion and mass produced pieces. Although, I didn’t realize it at the time. Back in the day, I loved going to stores known for their fast fashion with a $100 budget and walking out with 9 or 10 dresses. Not knowing that I was only going to get one wear out them. Between it getting raggedy after one wash to being completely out of style in 2.2 seconds. It took years for me to realize that my money and the dresses didn’t stand a chance. Most of them ended up being fabric that I used for dusting or wiping down something.
I learned that buying certain items that were massed produced was not for me either. Basics and casual styled pieces is one thing. But walking into a room wearing something that someone else has on is the worst! It only had to happen to me a couple of times before I decided I needed to find another way to spend my money effectively on fashion.
I actually had my first taste of handmade when I was younger. My mom was the best at sewing and used to make me some of the cutest outfits. I remember walking into my first day of middle school in a pair of MC Hammer style pants and a slightly cropped top. You couldn’t tell me anything! Now that I think about it, that is probably what initiated my appreciation for handmade.
There is something special about wearing garments that are skillfully made by hand. If you haven’t worn anything handmade, you don’t know what you’re missing. It hits different.
Here are some reasons to appreciate handmade.

Limited In Quantity – handmade can’t be mass produced. There’s no way you will be walking into a event and see others wearing what you’re rocking.

Supports Small Businesses – Most handmade products from clothes to anything else come from a small business.

Unique Styles – Since clothes are made by a small business, there is no one over them putting a limit on what type of styles they can or should produce. They can let their creativity fly!

Lasts Longer – If its properly handmade, time is taken to ensure the zipper is installed with precision, the buttons are firmly attached, it was washed before you received it to reduce shrinking, and the list goes on and on. These types of steps provide longevity to the garment.
Have you ever bought a handmade garment? If so, what was your wearing experience been like? If not, get yourself something handmade, you deserve it.
Stay Fearless 💋
I only buy handmade now, since the last two years. It’s hit or miss, some times buttons fall off faster or material unravels depending on the place I’ve purchased from but those are easy fixes so I’m never looking back!
